History of the Lady

Everything got it's own story to tell and this is The Spicy Lady's.

The Spicy Lady can be found on the National Register of Historic Places. Owned and run by the Clyde family who have been active in the valley since it was discovered. The establishment was called "Clyde's Billiards", but it's patrons knew it also as Tinks, after the owner. It's history in the valley is without doubt an interesting one.

I have been told that the Spicy Lady is situated in the oldest building in Heber with and has what once was the oldest bar in the State, although a newer older bar was brought in later by Robert Redford to his resort in Sundance, and I'm not sure we can hold that dubious record any longer.

The story of The Spicy Lady, really begins in May 2006. I was on a holiday through the area to see my little loghome up in Timberlakes being built, and liked the area so much, that I kept extending the holiday. It was on my way to Park City with some friends, that I noticed this quaint looking building for sale in Main Street.

The previous owner (Ed) had bought it off the Clyde family, and done an amazing job at restoration. The outside was quite frankly awesome, with an interior that came right out of a Western movie. I'd lie if there weren't some complications in the completion of this deal but this Lady was craving for a dance partner. I became the owner in in the 3rd quarter of 2006. Much work lay ahead of us.

Visually beautiful, the building for practical reasons required a lot of work still. We needed to add a Kitchen, and we did change the inside of the place a little further. Though Ed was originally concerned about his hard work being torn down, I think he now appreciates the changes that were made. The original bar was extended on both sides, and we put a granite top on the bar which has really made a shining difference. I would like to add that there was a clause in the sale of the property, that the bar and the elaborate bar-back would remain in the property for ever. It would be difficult to imagine that building without those amazing pieces in it.

Many of the establishments in Park City, have authentic looking externals, and the building evokes images of the old western mining towns of last century, But the inside somehow ends up looking like a Martha Steward designed home, or an Irish bar. The authentic look and feel of the place needed preserving as well as having it's own story spun. So here we are, spinning it.
